AREAS AFFECTED: Chautauqua
DESCRIPTION: * WHAT...For the Winter Storm Warning, snow. Additional snow accumulations of 1 to 2 inches along the Chautauqua Ridge. Only around an inch expected elsewhere in the county. For the Winter Weather Advisory, snow expected. Total snow accumulations 3 to 5 inches with the greatest accumulation on the higher terrain. Snow accumulations will be lower along the Lake Erie shoreline. * WHERE...Chautauqua County. The greatest accumulations will be across the higher terrain. * WHEN...For the Winter Storm Warning, until 6 AM EST early this morning. For the Winter Weather Advisory, from 7 PM this evening to 1 PM EST Wednesday. * IMPACTS...Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the Tuesday morning and evening commutes.
INSTRUCTION: Periods of snow will result in snow covered roads and limited visibilities. Slow down and use caution while driving. Submit snow reports through our website or social media. Widespread accumulating snow will create dangerous travel conditions.

A nimbostratus cloud is similar to a stratus cloud in its formless,
smooth appearance. However, a nimbostratus cloud is darker than a stratus cloud,
because it is thicker.
Unlike a stratus cloud, a nimbostratus cloud typically brings with it the threat
of moderate to heavy precipitation. In some cases, the precipitation may evaporate
before reaching the ground, a phenomenon known as virga.

an observable effect on rainfall, due to an effect called the urban heat island.
Compared to upwind, monthly rainfall between twenty and forty miles downwind of
cities is 30% greater.
